BLACK REP SEEKS YOUNG ARTIST MENTORS FOR NEW SUMMER PROGRAM
The Providence Black Repertory Company (Black Rep) is a non-profit cultural arts organization that produces and presents artistic performances that bring people together, provoke thought, inspire hope, and create understanding. Our dual mission—artistic and civic—provides for a unique experience across three key areas: Theater, Education, and Public Programs. Our work is inspired by the art and culture of the African Diaspora and embraces the values of community and democracy that are part of these traditions.
This summer, the Black Rep will launch "Carnival in the Capital", a 3-week intensive Caribbean arts program that immerses young artists ages 10-14 in the collaborative, artistic, and cultural traditions of Carnival around the world through hands-on activities in Storytelling, Masquerade (mask and costume making), Steelpan, and Theater. The program culminates with a final parade performance at Kennedy Plaza during the week of Sound Session--- a week long, genre-defying music festival produced by the Black Rep and the City of Providence.
We are currently seeking 3-4 interns/volunteers to serve as Young Artist Mentors in a variety of creative and educational capacities. Each intern will work with a group of approximately 12 students to provide hands-on support during artistic activities; in-class behavioral support; rituals, strategies, or activities that engage and build unity within your group; and supervision during transition periods.
