The Master Composter / Recycler Program
Topic: Learning Opportunity
The Master Composter / Recycler Program, conducted in partnership with the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation, trains volunteers to compost and to become advocates for composting and recycling within their local community and around the state. To earn the title “Master Composter / Recycler,” participants in the program attend a 14 hour course and fulfill a volunteer commitment of at least 30 hours.

Class topics include the economic and environmental benefits of recycling and composting, the science of composting, and the basic techniques/materials needed to start and to maintain a successful home compost pile.

The program offers a number of opportunities for individuals to become more active in their community, to tour various composting facilities within the state (including the RI Central Landfill), and to learn practical composting skills through hands-on activities and listening to the experiences of knowledgeable composters.
